Concept: Church of Good Shepherd, NZ

The architectural design of the building embodies the hallmarks of quiet strength and simplicity, reflecting the quintessential qualities of early settlers who endured the harsh landscapes of Mackenzie Country. Our modest stone church stands as a testament to the pioneers of the district, first built to venerate the glory of the divine and secondarily to memorialize their courageous spirit (Cage, 2017).

Concept:
The Church of the Good Shepherd, situated in the scenic Lake Takapō region, presents an excellent opportunity for photographing a unique architectural structure. An innovative approach utilizing astrophotography if conditions permit, light painting involving the use of drones and Lume Cubes for lighting effects, with a cross being the likely focal concept. Employing a long exposure of less than 25 seconds, the Milky Way can be achieved with sharpness, thereby rendering an incredibly satisfying result. Framing and composition, a staple in photography, require meticulous consideration to establish an image series that stands out. A possible alternative could involve a two or three-shot image blend that incorporates the building as the vertical line and the horizon as the horizontal.

Given the ubiquity of the church's image in photography, producing an image with a distinct and unique character is vital. Precise attention to creative aspects such as composition, color, lighting, and design is necessary to establish a visual language that differentiates from the widely captured perspectives of the church. This approach allows for the creation of an image that evokes a sense of novelty and appeals to the viewer's tastes, making it an enjoyable and memorable image.
