CONNECTION

"You need to have a profound spiritual connection to land.... You need to find your connection and tell that story." ~ Hon. Alison Anderson

Working Title “Connection” formally Lux Artem

"Connection" leverages an interdisciplinary approach, amalgamating various photographic tools with a strong focus on drone-based Aerial Luminary. The project aims to create a fusion of innovative and immersive experiences meticulously designed to amplify viewer engagement in diverse geographical contexts. This is achieved by employing unique patterns of light projected onto landscapes and the sky, reflecting my deeply personal connection with the landscape and capturing my emotional state at a particular moment.

In alignment with the sentiments of renowned landscape photographer Michael Kenna, who stated, “The first thing I do in landscape photography is to go out there and talk to the land – form a relationship, ask permission..." my approach is exactly that, to foster a dialogue with the environment, and with that aim to generate compelling imagery. While spontaneous and organic, this process can pose documentation challenges but remains a fluid relationship. As the narrative organically unfolds, my role as the photographer evolves to shape this narrative, echoing Ansel Adams' assertion, "You don't take a photograph; you make it."

"Connection" represents an ambitious endeavour to produce visually engaging and intellectually stimulating work, encouraging viewers to interpret the story from their unique perspectives. The project redefines the concept of a photograph, transforming it into an active discourse between the photographer, the viewer, and the landscape. This interaction encourages viewers to question, explore, feel, and connect, shaping their perception and experience of landscapes. Each personal connection will differ, shaped by personal, cultural, or historical influences, all of which mould our perception and understanding of landscapes.

The project integrates traditional photography techniques with interactive media and advanced technologies to explore innovative methodologies for constructing immersive visual narratives. The ultimate objective is to enrich narratives derived from landscapes and enhance our comprehension and engagement with them. Positioned within the rapidly evolving field of digital storytelling in landscape photography, I aim to challenge conventional perceptions, promoting a deeper understanding of our interaction with the natural world. It offers fresh insights into the intersection of technology, art, and human connection, redefining how we perceive, engage with, and narrate our experiences.

Echoing the words of Fay Godwin, “Photography is not just about creating beautiful images, but about telling stories, capturing emotions, and inspiring others,” this powerful sentiment encapsulates my ultimate aspiration - for my work to tell stories, capture emotions, and inspire others. Above all else, this is the pinnacle of achievement I strive for through my work.

METHODOLOGY:

Capturing the Soul of the Land

My photographic methodology is the compass that guides my journey as a photographer. It's the systematic approach I adopt to explore the natural world around me, capture its essence, and share my interpretations through visual imagery. My fascination with photography is an innate desire to tell stories - stories of fleeting moments, of silent sunrises, of the grandeur of nature, and of the harmony between our environment. Landscape photography allows me to capture these stories, and my photographic methodology is the foundational framework for my craft.

This video will convey my identity as a photographer and elucidate how I intend to employ photography to shape this project.
