Unraveling 'Nexum': An Odyssey of Connection and Creation

In life, we encounter a plethora of experiences that catalyse our growth and shape our perspectives. The last few weeks have been an academic crucible of sorts, a time of intense introspection and transformation. I have been navigating the labyrinth of my project, sometimes feeling disconnected, other times being swept away by a torrent of creativity.

A question that often looms large in the minds of academics is - 'Why?' Why does a particular concept resonate with us? Why does an idea take root in our minds, growing and branching out into many possibilities? More often than not, these questions remain unanswered, buried under the avalanche of our creative process. However, it is this very instinct, this primal urge to create and explore, that fuels our scholarly journey.

Initially, "Lux Artem" seemed like an apt working title for my project. It was evocative and enigmatic and encapsulated the essence of my work. However, as I delved deeper into the project, I realised that it was not just about the artistry or the intellectual rigour. It was about something far more profound - it was about connection. Hence, I decided to rename my project "Nexum", a Latin term meaning 'connection'.

"Nexum" is not merely a project; it is a reflection of my journey, my experiences, and my story. It is not political or controversial. Instead, it is deeply personal and introspective. It is a manifestation of my connection with the landscape, a testament to the countless hours spent in First Nations communities, absorbing their culture, their wisdom, and their stories.

Could this be the missing piece in the jigsaw puzzle of my academic journey? Was I so engrossed in finding my place in this master’s program that I overlooked the essence of my project? Perhaps. But as we peel back the layers of our understanding, we often stumble upon revelations that redefine our perspective. For me, the revelation was my deep-seated connection to a location and the insatiable desire to create something unique - my story.

So, what lies ahead? "Nexum" is gaining momentum, growing and evolving each day. The prospect of an exhibition looms on the horizon, a thrilling culmination of my efforts. It excites me not just as an opportunity to showcase my work but also as a platform to share my journey, my experiences, and my story. Because, in the end, it's all about connection, about finding our place in the grand tapestry of life and leaving our unique imprint on it. And that is the essence of "Nexum".
